Five things that you should do while waiting for a callback!!
Waiting for a callback is the ultimate test of patience for an actor.
You frequently hear echoes in your head and are unsure if you have captured the casting director’s heart or if another rejection email is on the way. Fortunately, your favorite A-list actors have experienced both.
In 2020, Gal Gadot revealed to Access Hollywood that she told her husband she wasn’t sure acting was for her right before she got her breakout role as Wonder Woman. She kept waiting for callbacks but none were coming, she was so tired of it.
“There’s so much rejection in this profession, and it came to a point where I was just like, ‘Is it really worth it?’” Gal Gadot said. “We were in LA for a trip, and I was telling my husband, ‘Look, we’re here now, but we’re leaving in two weeks…I don’t know if we’ll ever come again. I don’t know if I want to pursue acting.’ And then, during those two weeks, I had the Wonder Woman audition… Isn’t it crazy the way the world, the universe, works?”
Now, you can see that “The waiting game” is something that all actors must go through at some point. Unfortunately, it’s hard to know exactly when you’ll hear back. Then, what are some of the things you can do while you’re waiting?
Here are five things you can do while awaiting a callback as an actor.
1. Look for more acting gigs!
There’s a lot of pressure on actors to wait for callbacks, but it is not always the best idea to just sit around and wait. It can take weeks and months to get a callback, instead, you should look for more acting gigs and apply for more casting calls while you are waiting.
This ensures that you don’t lose the momentum of landing the roles you want and it can also help you stay sharp and improve your versatility.
2. Brush up your acting skills.
If you’re an aspiring actor who is waiting for a callback from an audition, it’s a good idea to brush up on your acting skills. Why? Because the more you practice, the better you will be when you receive that call. The more prepared you are, the better your chance of nailing that role and the subsequent auditions which will most likely lead to more callbacks.
Waiting for a callback can be emotionally draining, so it’s important to keep your skills sharp while you hope for the big break. So that you could surpass expectations when you eventually get the phone call that could change your life.
3. Try to Relax and Engage in positive self-talk daily. (Do not beat yourself up).
If you are an “ Omg I can’t keep calm, I can’t wait” kind of person, you need to learn to calm your nerves and keep your emotions in check while waiting for that callback.
Do not beat yourself up, and allow the wait to drive you crazy! Try to stay positive and relax. You’ll be more likely to get callbacks if you feel good about yourself. Also, tell yourself that your dreams are valid. Affirmations are a great way to keep a positive attitude during the audition process.
4. Prepare for the role you auditioned for in the hopes of landing it.
Yes, Star! While you wait for that callback, you should try to prepare for the role you auditioned for. We’ve heard stories about casting directors recasting the talents they cast for a role because they didn’t deliver as much as they expected.
You don’t want to be in such a situation, so you make sure you have done your homework. You know the basics of the role, but now you need to make sure you know the character inside and out. When you finally get that callback and arrive on the film set, you want to wow not only the director but the entire production team.
You’ll have a much better chance of doing that if you planned ahead.
Dear Star, The auditioning process can be time-consuming, frustrating, and stressful. It’s often a test of endurance and passion for the job, so don’t let it get to you; instead, do the things we’ve discussed above.
The main goal is to stay positive, consistent, and to continue actively working on paving your path to stardom. If you don’t get a callback now, know that a bigger one is on the way!
